Homework
Homework is intended to build responsibility, create a strong school-home connection, and reinforce skills and concepts learned at school. First Grade homework is sent home on Fridays and is due back to school the following Thursday. Reading First Graders should be reading with an adult for at least 20 minutes, five times a week. This includes reading to the adult, with the adult, or listening to an adult read and discussing the story. Math Math homework is an extension or review of math learned and practiced in class. Math homework should be checked by an adult after it is completed at home to ensure that the child understands the math concepts covered. This is the optimal time to catch any misunderstanding and take the opportunity to clarify and deepen the first grader's understanding of the skills covered on the assignment. Parents are asked to help their children correct any errors on their math homework prior to returning it to school. This is one example of how parents and teachers can work as a team to help ensure that first graders have the best opportunity to be successful. |
